A UNIQUE SPACE
The Convent of Jesus in Setúbal, Portugal, is a historic gem dating back to the 15th century. Its history is intrinsically linked to the religious and cultural life of the region, and its construction is attributed to the initiatives of Queen Isabel of Portugal, better known as Queen Santa Isabel. The convent was occupied by nuns over the centuries, having been damaged during the French invasions.
Over the years, the Convento de Jesus has gone through several phases of renovation and restoration and today, its former canteen, the Barriga de Freira Restaurant, is a unique space with a kitchen where quality and the art of cooking prevail.
OUR FLAVORS
A palette of unique flavors where the quality and freshness of the ingredients is fundamental in the art of good preparation. Originating from Convento das Carnes, another reference space from the same group, we find a selection of meats with a smooth texture and rich flavor, suitable for the most demanding palates. Desserts prepared by hand and conventual flavors, served with passion, complete an experience that takes us back to other times where the earthly and divine are confused.
THE RESTAURANT
Located inside the Convento de Jesus, in the old cantina, the Barriga de Freira Restaurant is made up of a room and a terrace that merge into a sober, well-designed and welcoming space, respecting the original architecture of the convent with a modern and functional twist.
